INTRODUCTION

HFSLIP64 is a Windows NT command script which can help you slipstream Windows updates into Windows XP Professional x64 and Windows Server 2003 x64/ia64 installation sources.  It is based on TommyP's HFSLIP, a command script intended to update 32-bit versions of Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003.

The main goal of HFSLIP64 is to create a new source that, right after its installation, no longer requires a large amount of updates for Windows core components.  The Windows Update and Microsoft Update sites are used as a reference.

"HFSLIP64" is short for HotFix SLIPstreamer for x64 and ia64, which exactly describes what HFSLIP64 does: the individual binaries in the new CD source are updated directly with the binaries found inside Windows hotfixes, a procedure commonly referred to as "slipstreaming".  Because the source files are replaced directly, you won't notice any impact on the total installation time as would be the case if you were to install all updates individually afterwards.  There will only be a noticable difference when you include extras such as silent switchless installers (eg, for .NET 3.0), but that speaks for itself.
