Slipstreaming Service Packs with HFSLIP

Step 1: Selecting the right Service Pack

In order to slipstream a Service Pack with HFSLIP, you first need to verify if the Service Pack you wish to use is accepted by HFSLIP.  The following table lists the supported Service Packs relevant to the OS source that you're going to put in the SOURCE folder.

SOURCESupported Service Pack
Windows 2000 GoldUSP5*, SP4
Windows 2000 with SP1USP5*, SP4
Windows 2000 with SP2USP5*, SP4
Windows 2000 with SP3USP5*, SP4
Windows 2000 with SP4USP5*
Windows XP GoldSP3 or SP2 or SP1a or SP1
Windows XP with SP1SP3 or SP2 or SP1a
Windows XP with SP1aSP3 or SP2
Windows XP with SP2SP3
Windows XP with SP3No Service Pack supported
Windows 2003 GoldSP2 or SP1
Windows 2003 with SP1SP2
Windows 2003 with SP2No Service Pack supported

*USP5 is an unofficial (non-Microsoft) Service Pack made by Gurgelmeyer.  It can be regarded as SP4 with the post-SP4 hotfixes slipstreamed into it.  More info can be found here.  Use at your own risk.

The supported Service Pack versions for a specific source are sorted by preference from left to right.  If you include more than one, the Service Pack with the highest preference for the OS version in the SOURCE folder is used and the others are ignored.

It is not possible to slipstream SP1, SP2 or SP3 for Windows 2000 into any version of Windows 2000.  These Service Packs are unsupported by Microsoft, and Service Pack 4 does not come with the "problems" that some people have with Service Pack 2 for Windows XP so there's no need to go through the extra trouble of supporting an earlier Service Pack for Windows 2000 in HFSLIP.

Note: a Windows XP source can be updated to SP2 while running Windows 2000.

Step 2: Downloading the right Service Pack

Once you've determined which accepted Service Pack version you wish to use, you need to download it if you don't have it at hand.  Please note: you need the so called "Network Install" version of the Service Pack and not the "Express Install" version.  Also, don't forget to use the Service Pack for the same language as your source.

List of downloadable Service Packs:

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (supported until 13-Jul-2010)
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (supported until 8-Apr-2014)
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (supported until 13-Jul-2010)
Windows Server 2003 32-bit Service Pack 2 (end of support date undetermined)
Windows Server 2003 32-bit Service Pack 1 (supported until 14-Apr-2009)

Copy the Service Pack installer into the HF folder and return to the page that send you here.
